I went grocery shopping for the month of February on January 28th. It was a huge success. I saved $41 and spent $39.93. Wow, I have money left over to buy more broccoli for the future recipes of the month. I must admit, I had at least one week’s worth of food left over from January. The day or two before the shopping trip, I went to the Fresh Grocer website to make my shopping list. I used their weekly circular ad to add items that were on sale. When I made my list, I created February’s meal plan. This takes about 30 minutes and then I can add more digital coupons, which takes about 5-10 minutes.
I am a member of Recyclebank. On this website I print a $5 off $40 purchase coupon for Fresh Grocer. This coupon plus the other coupons and the sale items allowed me to save more than what I spent. Cashback from Savingstar and Checkout51 are the icing on the cake.
I have a fridge and freezer filled with food. People are shocked and sometimes don’t believe me when I say my monthly budget for groceries is $50. It’s just me I am cooking for, so $50 seemed to be the perfect amount for groceries for one person.
Take home message: It takes about 40 minutes to prepare for an inexpensive shopping trip at the store.
